Patio is finished!!

Got the back patio awning finished yesterday.  It looks awesome and it will be so nice when the weather gets hot.  If it ever gets hot.  I always think this about this time of the year, especially when we keep getting spring snow storms.

New patio on back

Our house faces north/east and in the summer, the sun is almost unbearable in the back yard.  We looked at all kinds of options like retractable awnings, umbrella's, etc.  Finally went with an aluminum awning on the backside of the house.  It will cover most of the concrete in the back yard and allow us to use our back  yard more.

I am hoping it keeps the back side of the house cooler as well.

With Oil!!!

This past weekend, got a coat of oil on the jewelry box.  Wow, it sure made the wood a deep, rich color.

Myka's jewelry box

About 2 years ago, I started making a jewelry box for Myka out of purpleheart wood.  She loves purple, always has, since she was about 2 years old.

I got the case put together during my college furniture building class, but since I got put in YW's, have not been able to attend the furniture building class in over a year.

When I finished the storage cabinet under the table saw, decided to clear off the dust on the jewelry box and see if I can get it finished.

It stands about 22 inches tall and about 16 inches wide.  It has 6 "drawers" in it that will hold earings, bracelets and necklaces.

Got the two doors installed on Friday before the kids came down from Idaho.

Disney on Ice!!

This last weekend, Disney on Ice was in town.  We invited all the grandkids to come and go with us.  We got all the grandkids except Tarrin's two boys and Davis.  We had a great time.

Bailey and her daddy Jacob came to Disney on Ice with us.  Bailey and Zoey had their eyes fixed on the skaters.  They had so much fun.  Disney on Ice featured 3 different stories; The Frog and the Prince, Cinderella and Rapunzel or Tangled.  The carriage in Cinderella was incredible.  The horse from the Tangled story was awesome

Zoey had her dad pack her princess dress, just in case.  When she got there and saw other girls had their princess dresses on, she put hers on.

Musingi kids had alot of fun and played so well with the younger kids.

This was the first time Musingi's had come down since Scott's heart incident and surgery, so it was fun to see them and spend some time together.

Storage cabinet under table saw

I have this great big, beautiful table saw in my shop, with a great extension table on it.  The space underneath has been mostly wasted.

I have been wanting to build a cabinet to go under the extension table for quite a while to store all the accessories for the table saw, including finger savers.

Got that done a few weeks ago.  Made the case out of left over 3/4 plywood, so it has alder, oak and maple plywood.  Did the drawer fronts out of knotty alder.

Made the bottom drawer big enough that saw blades can stand on end in the drawer.  All the accessories are together now, in one place.

Book of Mormon stands

It's heck working on projects that are going to be a surprise, because you can't post any pictures on the blog.

This last summer, I found some large, leather bound Book of Mormon's at Deseret Book.  They are beautiful with pictures, large print and very nice.

I bought some for family members that would like to have a large Book of Mormon in their house.  Made stands for the large books to sit on.

I started them in the fall, but one thing led to another with other projects and then Scott's heart stuff, I did not get them all done and delivered until February.

Made stands out of coffee wood, mahogony and alder.  Coffee wood is just like oak in grain and color.  Mahogony is beautiful with some oil on it.
