Drawers for DVD's

This cabinet will fit on top of the small cabinet from the previous post.  There will be four drawers in this case.  We can fit three rows of DVD's, laying on their side.  On top of the drawers will be some shelves to hold books or other "stuff".

Another cabinet added

Now that the corner cabinet is installed, started working on the wings or cabinets to the side.  Started with the little one next to the corner cabinet and around the knee wall.  Debated for a while about building one big, tall cabinet, or breaking it up in to two smaller cabinets.  Glad I split them.

By the time I got the bottom cabinet done, it was heavy and hard to move.  Framed around the knee wall and then covered with plywood.  Put holes in the sides so I can adjust the shelf.  This cabinet will hold some of the DVD's.  This cabinet could only be about 12 inches deep because of the knee wall, but it will hold some DVD's and probably the ones the little grand children would want to look at and pick from.

Scott hurt his back this weekend, so I moved the cabinet in by myself.  Had a furniture mover that I could use on the back side of the house, but once I got it to the basement stairs, had to improvise a bit.  I did!!

Next cabinet is the cabinet that will fit on top of this short cabinet.  It will be about 60 inches tall and have about 3 or 4 drawers to hold more DVD's.  In the top part of this cabinet will be shelves for books or other displays.

Now I get to build some drawers for this case.

In place and level!!

This past weekend got the corner cabinet for the entertainment center pushed in to place and level.

Found the two outlets locations and cut holes for the electrical outlets to come through to the TV cabinet.

In that corner of the family room, we have three different ceiling levels.  The ceiling right in the corner is the shortest, then there is a pipe return, which is built into the ceiling, then beyond that, there is another height of the ceiling.  When building the corner cabinet, we were not sure we could stand it up in the area we needed to, but once we got it pushed back in to the corner, we had plenty of space on top, so we decided to put the electronics for the entertainment center above the TV.  The cabinet up there ended up being 11 inches tall, which is plenty of room for the DVD player, Blue Ray, Satellite box and the sound system receiver.

Started working on the cabinet to the right of the TV.  There is a 21inch knee wall, which is 13 inches deep that I have to build around.  With the electronics on top of the TV, the plan is to put drawers in this cabinet to hold the DVD's.

We are trying to keep the carpet in the family room, so I have cut some of the carpet away and keeping the rest long enough so when we are done, carpet installers can come in and finish the edge of the carpet right in front of the entertainment center.

Corner Cabinet assembled set upright

This past weekend we had a 4 day weekend, so we got lots done around the house.  I have had the pieces for the corner cabinet for the entertainment center ready for a few weeks to assemble.  We have had lots of company and grandkids here, so that was on hold.

The corner cabinet is a huge part of the entertainment center and the hardest with all the angles, corners, etc.

On the bottom of the cabinet, used 2 x 4's to reinforce the bottom for strength.
Assembled the corner cabinet on the floor, with the front part of the cabinet on the floor.  The cabinet will be 40 inches deep and 62  inches across to hold the 70 inch TV.

Saturday morning, we called for reinforcements and Scott's son's Tarrin and Michael stopped by to help us set the cabinet upright.  It took all four of us to do it.  There are almost 4 full sheets of MDF plywood in the cabinet and lots of additional cherry pieces.

We actually slid the cabinet in place to make sure it would fit around the knee wall.  There is a cement wall about 21 inches tall and 13 inches deep on one wall in the basement.  We are building the entertainment center around that knee wall.

Everything fit good.  I have two electrical outlets behind the corner cabinet, so Monday, an electrician came and moved the outlets for me so we can put the corner cabinet in and then replace the outlets.

Only thing left to do now on the corner cabinet is put the back board on the cabinet so it will cover up the big gap in the back of the cabinet, then we can move it in to place, level it and move on to the side cabinets.
