Last week, Trooper Aaron Beesley died in a fall after a rescue of two teenagers in the mountains. Aaron was a flight technician with the Utah Highway Patrol Aero Bureau. They had successfully rescued the two teenagers and removed them off the mountain. Aaron was retrieving his medical bag and fell off the cliff.
Aaron hired on the highway patrol 13 years ago and started at the Capital. I was his first Lieutenant. I pinned his badge on his shirt at his swearing in ceremony.
Aaron's wife decorated the cultural hall, when Scott and I got married, to try and make it not look like a gymnasium.
Aaron had been assigned most recently to the Utah Highway Safety Office to help a friend Carrie Silcox with her technology and data collection projects. Aaron helped with the most recent Utah Governor's Public Safety Summit in May.
An awesome young man. So skilled, so friendly and a huge asset to the department. At his viewing, we could see all the different hats her wore, UHP, Dad, firefighter, scout and husband.
After the funeral, the flag drapping his casket will be presented to his wife. I made two flag display boxes for the family; one for his wife and one for his parents. The folded flag will fit in the bottom right of the box. In the top right is foam, covered with satin where his ID badge, medals, spent casings from the 21 gun salute will be put.
The UHP shirt badge is in the top trim piece.
Great tribute to a great man!!
